This is a 15 minute interview with Mr. Joseph Pedott, "inventor" of the Chia Pet, on Blogtalk Radio:
Mr. Pedott discusses his successful products: the Ove Glove, the Clapper, and the Chia Pet. Two of these products have been named among top 5 American icons, by the Smithsonian Institution.
He says "Everything in life is a catastrophic accident." He discusses his discovery of the Chia Pet at a trade show in Chicago, the Chia Obama controversy, and his overall philosophy of advertising.
According to Mr. Pedott, Chia Pets originally appealed mostly to women for home decorating around the holidays. But then children became interested, and recently the hospital-bound have become an important market.
Mr. Pedott's biggest challenge is "finding new products." He says he looks at a thousand ideas before he finds one he can use. He's looking for a "star in the sky," and something useful, with longevity.
I've spoken with Mr. Pedott myself, and find him to be a friendly and kind older gentleman.
